Under the general direction of the Team Leader of Community Services, the Community Parks and Recreation Coordinator is responsible for parks development and operations, and construction of new parks, trails and facilities. The Community Parks and Recreation Coordinator also provides supervision in the general operation and maintenance of existing parks, trails and facilities, including contract supervision. The Community Parks and Recreation Coordinator implements operational priorities as outlined in the approved Electoral Area Parks Plans and five year budgets, including the preparation of procurement documentation, preparation and implementation of budgets, public consultation, contractor and consultant coordination and construction and infrastructure monitoring, supervision and inspection.
The Community Parks and Recreation Coordinator liaises with federal and provincial government agencies to obtain land use approvals, implements improvements, and ensures bylaws and park regulations are enforced.
Educational Requirements: Undergraduate degree in Environmental Sciences or related discipline plus a minimum two (2) years of relevant experience including project management experience and horticultural landscape experience, preferably in a unionized environment within a local government, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Licenses, Certificates and Registrations: Valid Class 3 BC Driver’s License, CPSI Canadian Certified Playground Inspector, SVOP Certification, WCB Crane Safe Level A, Wildlife Danger Tree Assessor Certification.
This is a permanent, full time position and is subject to the provisions of the Collective Agreement negotiated between the CSRD and CUPE Local 1908. The salary range for this position is $2,358.14 to $2,642.52 bi-weekly (January 2016 rates as proposed to the Union. Pending approval from the Local 1908) with an attractive benefit package. Typical hours of work for this position are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
