Community Liaison (Bylaw) Officer – City of Langford

If so, the City of Langford has an immediate opening for a permanent full-time Community Liaison (Bylaw) Officer.

Reporting to the Manager, Community Safety and Municipal Enforcement, the Community Liaison (Bylaw) Officer provides outreach, education and effective customer service to all community members. The work includes connecting and liaising with residents, visitors and the local business community with a focus on public relations or the use of dispute resolution strategies and mediation where appropriate before considering referral of matters to other levels of law enforcement and public safety organizations. The Community Liaison (Bylaw) Officer represents the City as an ambassador at events in Langford, and conducts other duties, as required.

Your education includes completion of grade 12, supplemented by post-secondary training in criminology, Bylaw Enforcement or police training. You will have the demonstrated ability to proactively liaise with the public with diplomacy and tact, including at least 3 years’ experience with enforcement of municipal bylaws and regulations. Importantly, you will have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to understand and convey complex information in a clear and concise manner.

Please note that you must be able to obtain an RCMP security clearance within 6 months of employment.

Further, and in order to be considered for this position, candidates will have a BC Class 5 (full-privilege) driver’s license or equivalent driver’s license for where you reside. You must provide a current Driver’s Abstract (select the 5 years’ option if obtaining online) that has been obtained within 6 months of the closing date (below) with your application. Salary range for this full time position is $29.44 – $32.17 per hour plus an excellent benefits plan. The days of work will typically be Wednesday to Sunday between the hours of 11:00am – 9:00pm (35 hour/week), with a modified work week.
