Commissioner, Social and Community Services – Regional Municipality of Halton – Halton, ON

Overview
Halton Region is situated on the northern shore of Lake Ontario and includes the City of Burlington, the Town of Halton Hills, the Town of Milton and the Town of Oakville. Halton is committed to meeting the needs of its residents through the delivery of cost-effective, quality programs and services, including water and wastewater; Regional roads and planning;  paramedic services;  waste management; public health; Ontario Works; children’s and seniors’ services; social/not-for-profit housing; heritage programs; emergency management and economic development.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, you will join a Regional Management Committee that is committed to delivering quality, cost effective programs and customer service levels that are best in class.
In this key position, your mandate will be to lead a team committed to building communities where everyone has an opportunity to thrive. Specific program areas include children’s services, employment and social services, services for seniors and social housing.
This position also serves as General Manager of the Halton Community Housing Corporation. In this key position, the Commissioner Social and Community Services advises the CAO, Regional Council and its committees on strategic opportunities and issues within this domain.
The incumbent provides leadership and support in the establishment of current and long range plans to assist the Region in effectively meeting service and program demands.
As a leader in a values-based organization committed to continuous improvement, the Commissioner Social and Community Services establishes and maintains excellent working relationships with other levels of government in a changing environment.

Qualifications/Preferred Background

University Degree in Public Administration, Social Services, or a related field.
At least 10 years’ experience in a senior management position.
Excellent knowledge of the various levels and programs of government.
Demonstrated ability to develop policy and programs in a multi-faceted portfolio.
Demonstrated ability to establish effective relationships with all Regional clients.
Excellent presentation and communication skills and the flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances.
Operates within a highly ethical environment and will be accountable for going the extra mile, listening to customers, creatively meeting needs, and always being respectful to those served.
