The Nanaimo Economic Development Corporation (NEDC) was established to further the economic development strategies for the City of Nanaimo. NEDC works with both public and private sector entities and in partnership with community stakeholders to promote positive economic growth.

The Opportunity: Chief Executive Officer

Reporting to the Board of Directors and working closely with the City of Nanaimo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) develops the vision and carries out the mandate of the Nanaimo Economic Development Corporation. The CEO builds relationships, develops opportunities for partnership, attracts additional sources of funding, and delivers programs which will enhance economic activity in Nanaimo and the surrounding region. The primary objective of the organization is attracting tourism, events, investment, and trade for the benefit of the community and its residents.

The ideal candidate is a professional values-driven senior leader from the economic development, tourism, business sector, or a related industry, with the ability to build wide-reaching support for common goals and objectives. The successful candidate will have superior interpersonal and communication skills combined with a proven track record of achieving outstanding business development results. He or she is comfortable interacting with and being accountable to a Board of Directors, and brings an uncompromising entrepreneurial spirit and the leadership agility to get things done in an environment where there are often competing interests and priorities.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

A university degree in commerce, economics, business administration, political science, or a business related field with relevant experience;
At least five years of experience at a senior leadership level, preferably in areas related to business development and marketing;
A proven track record of innovative and strategic decision making; and
Experience working in unionized environments and a history of fostering positive labour relations
