The Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) represents nearly 300 urban municipalities including cities, towns, villages, summer villages and specialized municipalities and more than 85% of Albertans. It is a dynamic and evolving association, advocating the interests of members to the provincial and federal orders of government and other stakeholders.
AUMA works to engage our members and develop strategic partnerships between all orders of government to meet municipal needs. Although many urban municipalities share common challenges such as the need to fund core services and maintain infrastructure, we also understand the diverse and complex nature of our membership. That’s why we’re committed to developing solutions that respect differences.
Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer plays a key leadership role in ensuring the AUMA achieves its mandate and goals. The CEO will be responsible for the overall advocacy and management of the AUMA, AMSC, AMSCIS, MUNIX and APEX Corporations in accordance with the objectives, policies and practices as approved by the Board of Directors, of each Corporation.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:
Progressive senior management experience with agencies, boards or government.
Strong knowledge of governance principles and experience working with a Board of Directors.
Understanding of the political process and the political environment in Alberta together with an ability to demonstrate strong political instincts, finesse and acumen.
Skills and abilities to respond efficiently and professionally to contentious, controversial issues within highly political environments.
Proven ability to foster strong collaborative working relationships and build effective partnerships.
Able to work across all spheres of public policy.
