The Tsleil-Waututh Nation (TWN) are “The People of the Inlet”. They have inhabited the lands and waters of their traditional territory along the Burrard Inlet in British Columbia since time out of mind. They are Coast Salish people, with their own distinct customs and history that guide the leadership to govern their Nation. The Tsleil-Waututh Nation Leadership and Administration uphold the vision of the Nation to ensure a healthy and holistic, self-sustaining and economically prosperous Nation in harmony with their surroundings. About the Opportunity
Recognizing the importance of strong organizational leadership when it comes to delivering the very best of services to their community, Chief and Council are looking to attract an accomplished Chief Administrative Officer to ensure the organization continues to grow in a healthy and prosperous manner.
Reporting to TWN Council with a direct reporting relationship to the Chief, the CAO will;
Provide executive leadership and vision while mentoring a highly dedicated team of professionals with strategic and financial planning, budget, long and short-term goals in driving connections between daily operations and overall financial performance;
Be an exceptional values-driven leader who inspires confidence and trust while providing support and assistance to directors and manager’s programs ensuring all Nation decisions comply with relevant legislation, policies and procedures and that Council’s decisions are implemented in a timely manner;
Manage communications between administration and community members as well as other government agencies and departments, private industry, business and any other stakeholders to build TWN’s reputation, maintain its values and promote economic opportunities throughout their community;
Provide leadership and vision guidance to economic development ensuring that all activities correspond with the overall goals for the community as determined by Chief and Council, and
Implement dynamic stewarding skills required to inspire your dedicated staff and play a key role working with the Chief and Council in developing strategic initiatives that meet both current and future needs of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge and Experience
As the ideal candidate, you will have strong post-secondary academic credentials that may include a degree in Business, Finance or Management, as well as at least five years senior management expertise, ideally gained in band management or in a Tribal Council role. You have knowledge of Aboriginal Affairs Northern Development (AANDC) policies and procedures and other relevant legislation. Understanding of First Nations history and culture is essential. You excel at managing finances, dealing with economic development and change, and have a proven track record of demonstrating your capabilities as a senior executive. You are a team player, a strategic thinker with excellent communication and human resources skills coupled with sound judgment. You have demonstrated ability and experience in upholding the TWN organizational values of Professionalism, Respect, Health, Effective Communication, Trust, and Support. You are recognized for your positive corporate contributions and being a catalyst for positive change within organizations you have worked with in the past.
