Earthroots is seeking a door canvass director to build our outreach and fundraising door canvass.
Earthroots is a grassroots, non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection of Ontario’s wilderness, wildlife and watersheds, through research, education and action. For over two decades our canvass team has played a vital role in helping the organization achieve its goals – we are currently looking for a new director to lead our crew. The canvass program focuses on engaging people in residential neighbourhoods in the GTA, increasing awareness about the organization and our campaigns, getting petitions signed, and raising much needed funds for our work.
If you are passionate about conservation issues, have previous canvassing experience, and would like to work with a group of politically active / like-minded individuals, this could be the perfect job for you! This position provides a unique opportunity to learn about the non-profit sector and make a contribution to the protection of our wild spaces. The successful candidate will become an essential part of a small, dynamic environmental organization.
Job responsibilities include:
Maintaining an excellent knowledge of Earthroots campaigns and a personal canvass average above quota.
Recruiting, interviewing, training and when necessary, dismissing canvassers.
Training and supervising field managers.
Maintaining positive crew dynamics and morale.
Providing on-going training for the canvass crew.
Overseeing cash outs and ensuring all monies are safely deposited after each shift.
Proper handling of petty cash and receipts.
Negotiating annual turf and managing the turf schedule.
Making daily turf maps.
Exploring ways to improve and build Earthroots’ door canvass program.
The Canvass Director must have:
Prior extensive experience as a canvasser and good time management / organizational skills.
Excellent communication, people management and fundraising skills are also required. The canvass director must be confident, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and take responsibility for a 4 – 6 person canvass crew. Knowledge of environmental issues, Earthroots’ campaigns and previous experience with activist / grassroots organizations are strong assets. Having a driver’s licence and access to a vehicle would also be of benefit.
Salary (varies based on number of shifts worked):
Minimum of $945.00 per month + bonuses (based on a minimum of 10 shifts per month, 4:30 PM – 9:30 PM + 20 hours of administration / management)
