Summary
Oceana Canada, an independent charity established to restore Canadian oceans to be as rich, healthy, and abundant as they once were, is proud to be affiliated with the international family of Oceana organizations. Oceana Canada works with civil society, academics, fishermen, and government to return Canada’s formerly vibrant oceans to health. We engage in fact-based campaigns designed to preserve the bounty of the sea as a source for wild-caught fish, as well as to preserve the marine ecosystem for our own and future generations.
Oceana Canada seeks a Campaign Manager, based in Ottawa. Reporting to Executive Director, the Campaign Manager will work with a multidisciplinary team to plan, develop, implement and win Oceana Canada’s policy campaigns on marine conservation issues, with an emphasis on fisheries. Candidates must have experience working on and leading policy campaigns designed to make policy changes in natural resource management or a related field.
Principal duties and responsibilities
Lead the development and implementation of campaign strategies and plans, and develop supporting materials.
Work with a multidisciplinary team to achieve campaign goals.
Develop and manage campaign budgets.
Support the development of annual and longer term campaign goals.
Establish Oceana Canada’s leadership on campaign issues.
Lead in the planning and implementation of events to propel campaign goals.
Manage outside relationships with partners.
Maintain a working knowledge of relevant natural resource management and policy practices.
Coordinate all campaign timelines, milestones and deliverables using appropriate project management methods.
Regularly report on campaign progress, and lead the charge for overcoming obstacles to ensure goals and objectives are met.
Assist in fundraising for campaign projects and programs.
Perform additional duties as needed and/or assigned.
Requirements
Demonstrated success in policy campaign delivery and execution of project management methods.
Exceptional management skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Highly effective negotiation, diplomatic, and conflict resolutions skills.
MA, B.Sc. or BA in environmental policy, political science or related degree from an accredited four-year university.
Project management education or certification is an asset.
Minimum of five years of related professional experience
Experience completing projects under tight deadlines and effectively managing a demanding work load.
Intuitive grasp of organizational structure to manage cross-departmental and cross-disciplinary resource allocation.
Superb facilitation of meetings, feedback sessions and briefings.
Able to effectively communicate with technical, professional and senior staff.
Strong problem identification and resolution skills.
Able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with all stakeholders.
Flexibility to adjust to shifting priorities and deadlines.
Persuasive and motivating.
Familiarity with project management software is an asset.
Fluency in French is an asset.
