Position Summary
Canterbury Hills is a small Overnight and Day Camp for children and youth owned by the Diocese of Niagara and located in Ancaster, Ontario. Over the course of 50 years of camping, Canterbury Hills has provided a nurturing place for children and youth to explore nature and personal development through our unique program.
We are currently looking for a full time Camp Director to join our team. This role is responsible for ensuring the camp process follows the policies set by the Canterbury Hills Board, the Diocese and the Ontario Camps Association, and that the camp experience is a safe and positive experience for campers, their families and staff.
Education/ Qualifications/Skills
Educational background in recreation, child development, psychology, education, physical education, or equivalent
Current Standard First Aid & CPR C Certification, or willingness to obtain essential
Valid G class driver’s license
Challenge Course Certifications – ACCT Level 1-2, or willingness to obtain essential
National Lifeguard Service (NLS) Qualification an asset
Provide a recent Police Reference Check upon hiring
Previous experience working in a summer camp (residential or day)
Previous experience in a supervisor/training role
Solid understanding of crisis management and risk management principles
Exceptional skills in planning; adaptability; teamwork; and relationship building; communication
Job Accountabilities
Set goals and action plans to enhance the camping program and staff development
Hire, train, manage, and act as a mentor to all staff
Plan and implement a weekend long and weeklong training event for Cabin Leaders
Evaluate the Leader-in-Training program, facilitate learning sessions as needed
Apply for funding grants to support camping program
Work with fundraising team to develop fundraising initiatives
Develop, submit, and implement marketing strategy
Manage yearly budget set by the Board of Directors
Oversee all day-to-day operations of programs
Report accurately regarding the camp programming to Board of Directors
Facilitate program areas based on qualifications (High Ropes, Climbing wall, pool) when necessary
Complete daily and weekly camp administration
Administer first aid, medication, and other wellness operations based on camper and staff needs when necessary
Liaise between many community members including, but not limited to parents, alumni, donors, diocese members, partner agency representatives, and year round staff, and Board of Directors
Execute decisions of the Board of Directors including following through on projects in a timely manner
Comply and uphold the Ontario Camps Association standards
Other duties as needed by the Camp Community
