The Business Manager is a key member of the Management Support Team and is responsible for the overall effectiveness of his/her own work and of equal importance, the overall strategic success of Shelter Nova Scotia. The Business Manager is expected to participate the Management Support Team in a participatory and collaborative manner adding value and leadership where appropriate.
Job Overview:
The Business Manager manages all financial matters for Shelter Nova Scotia in compliance with the strategic objectives established by the Board and the Executive Director. The Business Manager provides strategic advice and analysis to support the development of strategic and operational plans.
Accountabilities
Strategic/Leadership Role
Participate on the Management Support Team and contribute to annual business planning, strategic planning and corporate initiatives.
Work in a way that demonstrates the ability to link vision and short and long-term goals to daily work.
Identify and implement strategies, policies, programs and standards to achieve Shelter Nova Scotia vision and goals and develop a culture that enhances the organization’s ability to attract and retain quality employees and achieve operational success.
Think critically and systematically about external trends and their impact and influence on Shelter Nova Scotia staff, processes and services.
Prioritize work in clear alignment with Shelter Nova Scotia business goals and make decisions in the context of the organization and its environment.
Functional
Work with the Board, Executive Director and management team to establish the annual operating budget and the five-year capital budget and processes for reporting on their implementation.
Actively participate and support the activities of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee of the Board
Ensure the timely submission of all reports and forms in compliance with Canada Revenue Agency and other requirements.
Maintain accounting records of revenue and disbursements (including payroll), and submit regular financial statements to the Board.
Prepare information for and ensure compliance with the annual audit.
Establish open working environment to encourage a broad understanding across the organization of financial issues related to the operation of Shelter Nova Scotia.
Support Board and Executive Director in the development of financial information to support their approach to Government and major funders.
Requirements
Experience using SAGE Simply Accounting software
Proficiency in Microsoft Applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook
Able to adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality, code of conduct, policies and procedures
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Government of Canada Personnel Screening form will be required
