Building Officials – Regional District of Central Kootenay

The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) is expanding the Building team! We are accepting applications for 2 new permanent, full time positions in Nelson, BC (Level 2 and 3) and 1 new permanent, full time position in Creston, BC (Level 2). The new positions have been added to meet the increased demand that comes with economic growth within our communities and will strengthen the Building team’s ability to deliver consistent, professional services to its residents. Joining our established team, the new Building Officials will be responsible for efficient end‐to‐end permitting and inspections services in line with their level of certification, which includes but is not limited to:
Reviews building plans and applications to ensure compliance with relevant codes, regulations and bylaws
Determines and charges building permit fees in line with RDCK bylaw and policy
Inspects construction and provides information to ensure conformity with plans, codes, regulations and bylaws

Takes necessary actions to rectify illegal construction and bylaw infractions, which may include issuing Stop Work orders and/or tickets

Level 3 Building Officials hold additional responsibilities, including assisting and mentoring other Building Officials. Servicing broad geographical areas, each Building Official often works alone in rural locations. To meet the unique needs of our diverse population, staff must be skilled communicators who are able to work with owner/builders as well as contractors and design professionals. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
LEVEL 3: 5 years experience as a Building Official in a Municipal or rural settng + Level 3 certification through BOABC
LEVEL 2: 3 years experience as a Building Official in a Municipal or rural settng + Level 2 certification through BOABC

ALL BUILDING OFFICIALS MUST HAVE:
Level 1 Certiication with the Plumbing Inspectors Association of British;
Diploma in Building Science, Science OR trade qualification in carpentry, plumbing and/or heatig ventilation;
Member in good standing with the BOABC;
Venfilation Certificate or ability to quickly attain;
Valid BC Drivers License and a satisfactory Drivers Abstract; and Satisfactory Criminal Record.
