The essential qualifications are:
Grade 12 education
Building Officials Association of BC Level I certification
Journeyman Level Certification in one or more associated construction trades or Civil/Structural Engineering Diploma or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Minimum of 1 year experience in a related position
Valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers License
Demonstrated computer skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook and Word)

In this position, your primary responsibility will be the examination and checking of plans and permit applications for compliance to building and zoning bylaws, B.C. Building and Plumbing Codes and related regulations. Your role will also include issuing building permits and discussing construction alterations and repairs with homeowners, contractors and consultants. Your success at this position will be based on a thorough knowledge of building construction methods and the ability to read and interpret plans so as to provide technical advice for a wide variety of residential building projects. The ability to communicate verbally and in written form on a daily basis will reinforce your customer service skills.

This position will also respond to general public inquiries and complaints with tact and courtesy to ensure a positive resolution.

This is a full time permanent position working 35 hours a week and offers an hourly rate of $30.45 (2015 wage) along with an attractive benefit package and municipal pension plan.
