EnviroCentre is looking for qualified, dedicated and energetic individuals to serve on its Board of Directors. If you or someone you know would make a great Board member, then we would like to hear from you! The following will tell you more about our organization and how to apply.

About EnviroCentre:

Established in 1999, EnviroCentre is an Ottawa-based, non-profit organization that helps its clients reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, while saving money and improving quality of life. Our action-oriented programs and services include building energy auditing and energy conservation solutions, transportation demand management strategies and practice, and community programs to promote and encourage sustainable lifestyles. EnviroCentre operates in Ottawa, Eastern Ontario and across the Province.

Our Mission:

EnviroCentre is a go-to source of practical services and programs that help individuals, families and organizations conserve energy, improve environmental health and act more sustainably.

The Board of Directors:

The Board plays a critical role with respect to strategy, governance, financial oversight, legal and ethical integrity and overall accountability of the organization. The Board of Directors has a maximum of nine director positions, two of which are being filled. Members serve for a 3-year term.

Board Committees:

The Board has five standing committees: Executive Committee, Finance Committee, Human Resources Committee, Facility Advisory Committee, and Nominations Committee.

Expectations of Board members:

Time commitment of 4 to 8 hours per month depending on the general level of Board activity and involvement in sub-committees.
Be prepared for, and actively participate in board meetings and sub-committees.
Stay informed about board/committee issues.
Maintain confidentiality.
Work collegially with other board members.
Avoid any real or perceived conflict of interest.
Make a commitment to, and champion the mission, vision and values of the organization.

Desired Competencies:

The Nominating Committee is specifically looking for candidates with knowledge and experience in the following areas:

Business Development, Innovation and/or Fund Raising

Extensive and demonstrated experience with business development, program/service innovation and/or fund raising in the corporate or non-profit sectors.

Government Relations and Advocacy

Extensive and demonstrated experience with strategic government relations and advocacy.

Accounting Knowledge

Extensive and demonstrated experience with finance and financial reporting systems, auditing and risk management.

    Specific Business Sectors:
Building energy/building retrofits – delivery of programs/services in a commercial setting.
Retail/Small Business – all aspects of running a small business including customer acquisition, sales and marketing.
Social Enterprise (and Non-Profits) – organizations which apply market-based strategies to achieve a social purpose.
Consulting Services – provision of consulting services in the areas of transportation, energy and other relevant areas.
Sustainable Development/CSR – development and implementation of corporate sustainability/corporate social responsibility plans and strategies.
