Role and Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Project Lead for Youth Programs the Youth Engagement Coordinator will:
With support from the Project Lead, plan, develop and implement a new bilingual school education project centred around storytelling.
Develop bilingual project materials: curriculum-aligned activities, resources, and website content.
Conduct outreach to teachers and youth group leaders across Canada to engage them in the storytelling project, schedule and liaise with teachers as needed.
Support the development of strategic partnerships in French-speaking communities and with French/Bilingual organizations.
Lead educational webinars (and workshops when safe) focused on water storytelling for school groups (in French and English- depending on the school’s request), coordinate volunteers to lead webinars.
Support the coordination and delivery of professional development training and volunteer program for young professionals/students (ages 19-29); mentor and coordinate them in delivering Waterlutions school education projects.
Write your own water stories, social media posts and blog posts around the art of storytelling & environmental education (in both languages).
Assist with other administrative tasks relating to Waterlution’s Youth Programs.
As the Youth Engagement Coordinator grows into their role and with the Waterlution team, the coordinator will take on more responsibilities in training coaching and mentoring Youth Advisory Board volunteers and supporting with the Youth Program’s funding applications.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, education, languages or cultural studies (or related degree).
Bilingual (preference will be given to those with French as a first language).
1-3 years of experience delivering environmental education programs to youth and/or children.
Strong written and verbal communication, confidence in public speaking, in both languages
Experience coordinating with teams, experts, partners, and/or stakeholders.
Experience using ZOOM meeting technology and google drive.
Experience or training in delivery storytelling workshops, contests or programs is considered an additional strength (please highlight in your application, but not a requirement)
Video-making and editing skills, photography, social media, graphic design are considered additional strengths (please highlight in your application, but not a requirement)
Self-starter attitude and demonstrated project leadership experience.
Work Details:
Work from home environment (during and post COVID restrictions), you will need reliable internet access, and quiet comfortable desk space to work and the ability to remain motivated, responsive and focused in a work-from-home setting.
Adequate privacy for an at-home work environment to have calls with team and others
Must have a personal computer with a webcam and mic built-in
Waterlution operates on 7.5-hour workdays. We prefer workdays to fit between 9 am and 5 pm. yet some flexibility can be offered to the selected candidate. Some flexibility will be required of the successful candidate when online events need to be delivered in the evenings or on weekends.
Applicants must but 30 years of age or younger and not have previously participated in a Government of Canada Youth Employment Strategy internship through EcoCanada or Career Launcher (previous participation in the Canada Summer Jobs program is acceptable).
