Due to the retirement of the incumbent, Rocky View Schools (RVS) invites applications for the position of Associate Superintendent of Business and Operations. Duties will commence December 1, 2017, or as mutually agreed.
The Division
Bordering the City of Calgary to the north, west and east, RVS is Alberta’s fifth largest school division, serving the educational needs of over 24,000 students within 50 schools, located in the City of Airdrie, the Town of Cochrane, the City of Chestermere, and Rocky View County. This October will see the election of eight trustees from both urban and rural wards.
A rapidly growing division, RVS employs more than 2,400 staff, opened five new schools over the past 18 months and operates an annual budget of approximately $265,000,000. RVS is in a strong financial position and known for its innovative culture. RVS’ Education Centre is located in Airdrie, one-half hour from downtown Calgary.
As stewards of the division, Rocky View’s Board of Trustees promotes an open and transparent learning system, taking very seriously its responsibility for setting directions, allocating resources, and monitoring and reporting student achievements.

The Region
RVS includes some of the fastest growing communities in Canada. With a wide range of housing options available in both new and established neighbourhoods, people are discovering the area surrounding RVS offers a small town or rural lifestyle with big-city amenities. Parks, recreation facilities, and walking/biking trails abound in the area. The jurisdiction borders Calgary where many staff choose to live. Just a short drive away, beautiful Kananaskis Country and Banff National Park provide a myriad of recreational opportunities.
The Role
The Associate Superintendent of Business and Operations works closely with the Superintendent of Schools. Functions within the portfolio include: finance; facilities planning; supply management; maintenance; transportation; caretaking, as well as a variety of corporate services (FOIP, contracts and legal agreements, and liaison with legal counsel). The incumbent also acts as secretary-treasurer to the Board of Trustees.
The Candidate
RVS seeks a proven, collaborative leader with 10+ years of professional experience managing the business and operations of a comparable organization, preferably a school division or public sector organization. The successful candidate holds a degree, preferably a graduate degree in business, management, finance and/or public administration to go along with a recognized accounting designation.
