Reporting to the Fire Chief, the three Assistant Fire Chiefs provide input and assist with strategic direction, leadership and management for one of three portfolios (Administration, Operations and Training) within West Kelowna Fire/Rescue. This newly created position will be responsible for the Administration Branch portfolio. However, the portfolios may be shifted periodically to provide developmental opportunities.

The ideal applicant will be a strong communicator who has worked effectively in an environment where teamwork is essential to accomplish and ensure exceptional public value and continuous improvement in Fire Department service delivery.

The successful candidate will manage all aspects of Fire Department Administration including the Fire Prevention Division, Fire and Life Safety Division and the Fire Department’s administrative support staff. This includes responsibility for the Fire Company Inspection Program; Fire Services By-law Enforcement and management of the Fire Department Safety Committees. Strong interpersonal and computer skills are required. We are seeking an organized, talented and committed professional to lead staff and provide internal support in business planning, financial administration and analysis, budget monitoring and fire department technology.

We require a candidate that can confidently organize the fire ground and related emergencies using unified command, strategies and tactics to ensure life safety of all first responders and the public. The successful candidate possesses practical operational experience as a Duty Chief and after hours contact for fire department operations; including knowledge and experience as an Incident Commander at a wide range of events.

The ideal candidate will possess Incident Command and Fire Officer qualifications and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related position that includes supervisory experience in a unionized and paid on call environment. Equivalent combination of education/experience may be considered. A degree in a related field is an asset.
