We have an exciting professional career development opportunity in the Saanich Fire Department for the position of Assistant Deputy Chief.  The successful applicant will be a highly motivated, service oriented, dynamic leader with proven fire service leadership and extensive administrative and operational experience.

The Assistant Deputy Chief is accountable for high-level business functions that support efficient and effective Fire Department administrative and emergency response activities and programs. Regular rotation between key managerial portfolios and areas of responsibility includes but is not limited to: confidential human resources and labour relations; program development and implementation; special project research and planning; employment and recruitment programs and standards; emergency response, operational planning, site support and resource management. Consistent with the assigned portfolio, the incumbent will have administrative responsibility for budget, finance, purchasing, planning, report writing and personnel matters.

Requirements include Grade 12 or equivalent; certificate in Fire Service Leadership or Administration; NFPA 1021 Fire Officer III certification; Incident Command Level 300; ten years progressive experience in a municipal fire or emergency service and possession of a valid BC Driver’s License.  Candidates must also have demonstrated ability to promote strategic leadership and supervise employees in a unionized environment. In addition, candidates are expected to have supplemented their professional development with additional courses/curriculum.  Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
