Aquatic Programmer – Regional District of Nanaimo

The Regional District of Nanaimo has a permanent full time employment opportunity for an Aquatic Programmer located at the Ravensong Aquatic Centre in Qualicum Beach.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Aquatic Services, the Programmer will organize, develop and maintain schedules for aquatic based programs and special events in District 69. This position plays a key role in the assessment of staff lifeguarding practices, maintaining current safety to current provincial levels, liaising with patrons and user groups and supporting aquatic staff at all levels of program implementation and scheduling. This position also requires the programmer to take a lead role in aquatic programming, staff orientation and training.

Qualifications include a degree in Recreation Administration/Leisure Services Management or a related field, plus 1 – 3 years prior job related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience, including a minimum of one year supervisory experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a general knowledge of computer applications are essential. The Programmer must possess and maintain certifications in the following: National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option), Lifesaving Society Instructor Award, Pool Operators Certificate Level I, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer, Lifesaving Instructor Training and National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner Awards, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Level II and CPR Basic Rescuer (Level C). A valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence, current First Aid, strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills are also required. Experience working with the Activenet Registration Software System would be a key asset.

This is a permanent full time Union position. The (2017) rate of pay is $33.23 – $34.98 per hour. The position offers an attractive benefits package as provided within the Collective Agreement between the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 401.
