Main responsibilities
Facilitate group gardening sessions, which includes:
Encourage and ensure a good social dynamic during gardening sessions. This includes ensuring the physical, mental and emotional health of members of the garden, supporting a democratic process and encouraging knowledge and social exchanges between participants;
Understand the technical aspects of horticulture and vegetable production, and ensure ecological production in the gardens;
Share knowledge and promote the values of urban agriculture and ecological gardening methods, food security, food sovereignty, healthy lifestyles and a good environmental conscience.
Create and strengthen ties between gardeners, the Community Food Center Depot and the community.
Assist in planning and logistical coordination of the Depot gardens.
Maintain communication with community partners, team and supervisor as required
Participate in team meetings, workshops and other events related to the urban agriculture component.
Participate in the evaluation of the collective gardening program, seek testimonials from members and write reports at the end of the season.
Qualifications required
Experience in group facilitation and mediation (including conflict resolution, non-violent communication, adjusting to the different needs of participants);
Experience and / or training in the production of ecological fruits and vegetables;
Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills in French and English;
Have a valid driver’s license and be comfortable driving a truck.
Be available for the entire duration of the contract (from June 15 to November 15, 2020).
Other skills sought
Be in good physical condition to perform physical tasks indoors and outdoors and be able to lift up to 40 lbs;
Be highly motivated, proactive and able to work independently as well as in collaboration with colleagues;
Good ability to solve problems and prioritize tasks;
Speak a language other than French and English (particularly Spanish, Persian, Mandarin, Arabic languages);
Master the use of desktop computer programs, including Word, Excel and Google Drive, Zoom, Slack;
Experience in simple construction and renovation;
Have a strong interest in community work and be comfortable working in a multicultural and intergenerational environment;
Be passionate about urban agriculture and the food security movement.
Timetable
1 shift of 28 hours / week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday
1 shift of 17 hours / week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and occasionally on weekends.
Gardening sessions are held during the day and in the evening. Please be prepared to work evenings and sometimes weekends as a regular schedule.
Conditions of the contract
$ 17 / hour, employee;
The contract begins as soon as possible in July 2020;
The contract ends on November 14, 2020;
The employee receives paid vacation (4%), sick leave and personal days during the contract;
The employee will receive fresh produce harvested from the gardens;
