Administrative Officer – Memorial University of Newfoundland – St. John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador

Reporting to the Director, Office of Research and Development and working in collaboration with the Research Liaison Officer as well as with Research Grants and Contract Services and CREAIT, CRC and CFI Services, the successful candidate will have administrative and facilitative responsibilities associated with research funding activities within the Marine Institute. Duties include supporting the Director, Office of Research and Development in the review of applications; funding proposals; and funding agreements for compliance with institutional policies as well for compliance with the funding agency’s program guidelines and criteria; management of internal or block programs funded by external organizations or agencies that are administered through the Office of Research and Development; identification and distribution of funding opportunities offered by granting agency, industry, and other funding bodies in areas of interest to MI’s research centres and schools; working with researchers to ensure that their applications adhere to both institutional and funding agency submission guidelines and requirements and that any institutional funding commitments are documented and approved prior to final submission; assisting researchers with the interpretation of external agency guidelines including liaising with those agencies as required; establishing and communicating information on internal review timelines as needed; management of institutional post-award requirements for release of funds or grant installments; assisting with the development of research administrative policies and procedures as needed; managing content for the Office’s website; maintaining information on MI”s research-related activity including funding applications submitted, the outcome of these funding requests, and preparation of summary reports and statistics related to this information; providing support as required in the maintenance of an Institute-wide capability and capacity database for research and development; and performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Experience (3-5 years) in research administration or project management work; graduation with an undergraduate degree in administration, management or a relevant field; an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. The ideal candidate will have a proactive approach with strong team building skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills. Excellent computer skills and the ability to function effectively and under pressure in a diverse academic/research community are required.  Critical thinking skills, the ability to effectively manage competing priorities in a high volume, deadline driven environment; experience with research contract agreements, including negotiation of contractual terms and conditions; and knowledge of Banner Finance are assets.

Salary $44,934 – $63,012 per annum (NAPE Local 7850)
