This position is based in Victoria which is located on the southern tip of Vancouver Island. BC Transit is searching for an Abilities Management Coordinator in Victoria, to administer all aspects of disability claims management and facilitate a safe, timely and sustainable return to work for injured or ill employees.

The Position:
As the primary claims management administrator for the company, you will liaise with employees, insurance providers, health care professionals, supervisors, union partners, and other stakeholders to handle all aspects of STD, LTD and WSBC claims.
In your first year you can expect to:
advise and explain program requirements and necessary documentation
promote early intervention and determine frequency of contact depending on the nature of the illness/injury
receive, evaluate and follow up on documentation to ensure claims are supported
communicate with supervisors and other stakeholders regarding limitations and restrictions, as well as timing of return to work
assess and offer suitable opportunities for temporary alternate duties
create return to work plans
assist employees in overcoming barriers to RTW
Your strong organizational skills and attention to detail help you coordinate related payroll activities; support claims adjudication and appeals; and compile metrics.
Your high degree of integrity and professionalism allows you to build and maintain effective and respectful working relationships under circumstances that may be highly sensitive and emotionally charged. Your excellent communication and conflict resolution skills include verbal and written communication as well as effective
listening. You have demonstrated an ability to work independently and in a team oriented environment, and display a high level of initiative to meet timelines.
You will bring to this role a degree or diploma in social sciences, disability management or other related discipline, and 2 years’ experience in the disability management field; other combination of education and experience will be considered. You will also have a solid understanding of relevant legislation such as the Human Rights Code, Workers Compensation Act and WSBC Guidelines, and the Freedom of Information & Protection of Privacy Act.
Our company requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and/or Vulnerable Sector search that we will facilitate with you, during the competitive process. This position is excluded from the bargaining unit, it has flexibility and also requires occasional on call availability.
