We are seeking up to 3 Water Conservation Officers and 1 Urban Wildlife By-Law Officer that are self-starting individuals for this summer position who are currently enrolled in or have completed a post-secondary education program related to resource management or environmental studies. You will be responsible for effectively and efficiently patrolling Coquitlam and enforcing adherence to the municipal lawn sprinkling regulations or vector control regulations and by-laws. You will also prepare, organize and deliver information on water conservation/urban wildlife to the public and promote program initiatives at community events and seminars. Other duties may include maintaining the water conservation/urban wildlife database, assisting with the Toilet Replacement Rebate Program, promoting and selling water conservation tools, and assisting with other initiatives within the Environmental Services Division.
You must enjoy working outdoors, be willing to work evenings and weekends, and be comfortable interacting with the public. Some duties are routine and require self-discipline and attention to detail. It is required that you possess the following:
excellent public education and public relations skills
experience in environmental activities or issues
excellent written/verbal communication
experience in data recording/entry and mapping
demonstrated organizational ability and creativity
ability to work well independently and on a team
and proficiency in using MS Excel, Access and Word.
Additional assets include:
Formal conflict resolution training or Bylaws experience
Familiarity with Coquitlam main arterials and landmarks
Knowledge of other languages, including Cantonese and/or Mandarin
The CUPE hourly rate of $23.61 – $27.75 plus 6% in lieu of benefits is offered. Start date is May 1, 2015.
