The Planning department of the Resort Experience division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Policy Planner. Reporting to the Senior Planner, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly starting in early December 2015 through to July 1, 2016. The Policy Planner’s primary focus is on long-range resort community planning. The Policy Planner will play an active role in policy development and resort planning initiatives including developing policies and bylaws, and neighbourhood level planning. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on a wide variety of projects.
Qualified candidates possess the following minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning or related discipline. A Master’s degree is preferred.
3+ years of professional planning experience.
Eligibility for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners.
Applied experience in both policy and development planning.
Considerable knowledge of contemporary urban design/planning theory, trends and techniques including applied experience with public engagement and stakeholder collaboration techniques.
Demonstrable working knowledge of the legislative framework applicable to planning in BC.
Experience in developing and presenting policy documents, design guidelines, Council reports, and bylaws.
Excellent verbal & written communication skills, including public speaking, presentation skills, report writing and policy drafting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel.
Experience and/or education related to tourism and/or resort community development is considered an asset.
