Alberta Animal Services is seeking a Full-time Municipal Enforcement/Animal Control Officer (ACO) for permanent employment with our Agency.
Job Description:
The Officer is responsible for ensuring public awareness and enforcement of the City of Red Deer Dog Bylaw, Cat Bylaw and the Parks and Public Facilities Bylaw as well as enforcing other Municipal Bylaws from time to time that our Agency is contracted to enforce.
Responsible for investigational work involving the enforcement of Municipal Bylaws and processing bylaw violations and complaints.
Dealing with the public and using judgment to make quick and pertinent decisions based on the knowledge of law and Municipal regulations.
Conduct highly visible foot and vehicle patrols in the City of Red Deer for the purpose of preventing and detecting violations.
Compiling and maintaining records in relation to all enforcement activities, tickets and provide monthly and yearly statistics.
Provide evidence in Provincial Court in relation to prosecuting outstanding charges.
Responsible for dealing with the apprehension of stray domestic animals and wildlife, impoundment, licensing of animals, and euthanasia when required.
40 hour work week which includes weekends, evenings, and being on the on-call rotation for emergencies.
Qualifications:
Candidates with a minimum of two years experience in a comparable position (enforcement), and post-secondary education in criminal justice or law enforcement will be considered.
Candidates with additional training that includes First Aid/CPR Certification, Baton and Pepper Spray Certification is an asset.
The position requires highly developed verbal and written communication skills and being capable of demonstrating strong dispute resolution skills.
A clean Criminal Record and valid class 5 Alberta Drivers License
Computer proficiency with reporting software, Microsoft Office, Access and Excel is an asset.
Knowledge of domestic animal breeds and the handling of animals.
Capable of performing the physical requirements of the position which includes heavy lifting, running, standing for extended periods of time and the ability to handle aggressive animals.
Alberta Animal Services offers a competitive salary and a comprehensive medical benefit package. Base wage: $28.00 an hour.
