The City of St. John’s is seeking a lawyer to join its team providing legal advice and services to Council and staff. Reporting directly to the City Solicitor, the successful applicant will be primarily responsible for all aspects of real property acquisitions and divestitures by and on behalf of the City of St. John’s, and such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant will have a LL.B or J.D from a recognized Canadian law school; be a member in good standing of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador; and have a minimum of five (5) years experience with a primary focus on residential and commercial real estate practice. A working knowledge of real property valuation methodology and values in the St. John’s area would be an asset. Experience with a public sector environment from a real estate practice would be an asset.
The successful applicant must be a person of integrity and sound judgement who is able to work independently and within a team environment; with proven ability to work under strict deadlines. The successful applicant must demonstrate excellent interpersonal, communication, problem solving, analytical, and organisational skills combined with solid time management, computer and research abilities. The successful applicant must have a strong background, and demonstrate expertise, in all areas of real property law.
Compensation:
The salary scale for this position is set at Grade Level 6 of the City’s Management Compensation Plan ($90,349.00 – $116,580.00). Hours of work are generally 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (minimum 33.75 hours weekly). This is a management position with a benefit package in accordance with the City’s Management Compensation Plan.
