Government Relations / Policy Coordinator – Greenpeace Canada – Edmonton, Alberta

Greenpeace Canada is seeking an experienced Government Relations and Policy Coordinator. The position will be responsible for researching and developing policy positions for Greenpeace Canada within Alberta, and for developing government relationships and lobby strategies to implement policy positions.

The Government Relations and Policy Coordinator will research and work with campaign staff to develop policy positions for Greenpeace Canada on a variety of different issues associated with energy, resource development and the environment. This position would also be responsible for developing and enacting lobby strategies to push for the adoption of policy positions by the new government.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Research specified energy and resource development issues.
Work with Greenpeace campaigns staff to develop policy positions on a range of energy, resource development, and environmental issues.
Develop relationships within key departments of the Alberta government.
Work with Greenpeace campaign staff to develop and enact lobby strategies to push for the adoption of policy positions by the new government.
Act as a spokesperson for Greenpeace with politicians, media, and the public.
Other duties as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

A demonstrated commitment, knowledge and passion for environmental and social justice issues;
Experience researching complex issues related to energy and the environment;
Knowledge of energy, environmental and resource development issues;
Past experience developing lobby and government relations strategies;
High level of professionalism while representing an organization, managing conflict, and maintaining work relationships;
Experience setting and adhering to priorities in a volatile and ever-changing context;
Demonstrated analytical skills;
Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking and presentation skills, as well as strong listening abilities;
Ability to work independently, establish priorities, and proceed with objectives with sometimes limited supervision, yet participate effectively as part of a team;
Flexible, collaborative personality;

Candidates should understand and support Greenpeace campaign tactics, including the use of peaceful civil disobedience. All candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
