Advocacy, Social Justice / Volunteer Coordinator – The Table Community Food Centre – Perth, Ontario

The Table Community Food Centre (http://www.thetablecfc.org), in Perth Ontario, is seeking to fill a 9 month leave-replacement position for our Advocacy, Social Justice and Volunteer Coordinator. The position is full time and will start on August 17 and run through the end of May 2016.

Primary Responsibilities of the Position

Coordinate the delivery of a community action training program designed to build the capacity of community members to become effective change-makers through individual coaching and group workshops.
Coordinate, support and supervise our team of Peer Advocates.
In conjunction with the Peer Advocates, implement workshops and training opportunities related to housing issues.
Support our Community Action Network in developing and implementing community engagement and political advocacy activities and campaigns associated with food security, poverty and social justice.
Network and build connections with other agencies and activist groups to support the Table’s programming.
Support the staff team to recruit and orient volunteers for The Table’s programs and events.
Actively participate in program evaluation.
Develop and monitor program plans and budgets
Develop funding proposals, and write reports to funders as required
Participate in broader activities at The Table including: planning, fundraising, public relations, communications, special events and team building activities.
Maintain the volunteer database.

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate possesses:

A post-secondary diploma or degree in Social Work or a related field.
Experience with case work and case management, knowledge of the resources and social service agencies available to people in the Perth area.
An understanding of individual and systemic causes of food-insecurity and poverty, and mechanism to address them through individual and political advocacy.
Enthusiasm for growing, preparing and sharing “good food”.
A demonstrated commitment to taking action on issues of food insecurity, social justice and inequality.
Strong communication and facilitation skills.
An independent work ethic and ability to constructively work in a team-environment.
