Avondale Sky Hospitality Manager – Avondale Sky Winery – West Hants, Nova Scotia

Avondale Sky Winery has been open to the public since September 2011. We are excited to be launching food service and wine by the glass to complement the existing retail operations. We are recruiting a staff of wine and food lovers to join the team.  Located in Newport Landing, West Hants County, we are the closest winery to Halifax.  A family-owned and operated boutique winery, we specialize in crafting quality wines with personality.

The Hospitality Manager (HM) will be responsible for promoting Avondale Sky Winery to the public. The successful candidate will oversee the tasting room and sale of wine, non-wine products and food and beverage services at the winery in order to maximize sales potential. The HM will supervise daily operations ensuring that the team is providing exceptional customer service and promoting our high quality wines to make the experience at Avondale Sky Winery exceptional for every visitor. The HM will manage our wine club, the winery’s presence at markets, festivals and events.  Must enjoy being part of the team and engage in environmentally‐friendly practices.

As Avondale Sky will be open to the public seven days a week during the season, it will be necessary for the HM to be available to work weekends, holidays and some evenings.  Travel will occasionally be required to attend events.

Position Requirements include:

Diploma or degree in Hospitality, Food Services, Restaurant Management, Retail Management or equivalent  experience.
A minimum 3 years winery, restaurant or retail experience
Must be a team player and possess “can do” leadership attitude
Must be highly motivated, independent and willing to take direction from management
Previous managerial experience in hiring, training, supervising and scheduling employees
Outstanding customer service skills
Proven ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Commitment to excellence and high standards
Ability to communicate with customers through social media, blogging and our newsletter
Ability to develop, implement and achieve sales goals
Ability to provide customers with an unforgettable wine experience
Must be able to work weekends, some evenings and some holidays
Must be detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
Must be able to conduct basic accounting functions and reconcile cash and daily sales
Must be able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly
Must be at least 19 years old
Must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
Professional appearance and attitude are absolute musts
Extensive knowledge of wines and wine production will be an asset
Ability to speak and read French will be an asset.

This is a full time position.  Compensation including benefits will be based on experience and qualifications.
