The Regional District of Nanaimo has an employment opportunity for a permanent full time Senior Operator at the Greater Nanaimo Pollution Control Centre.

Reporting to the Chief Operator, the successful candidate’s primary responsibility will be to coordinate scheduled maintenance for all plant, pump station and associated equipment, and inspect all systems to ensure proper/correct operation and/or report abnormal conditions.  Other duties include assisting with the orientation and training of new employees and providing input on capital projects including design, construction and commissioning as well as performing responsibilities under the Wastewater Services ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.  The incumbent may be required to act as Chief Operator in the Chief Operator’s absence.

Qualifications include a Post-Secondary Diploma in Water & Wastewater Technology supplemented with the Environment Operators Certification Program Class 4 certificate in Wastewater Treatment. A Level 1 or 2 EOCP Collections certificate would also be a definite asset.  A thorough knowledge of treatment process, laboratory procedures, pump station maintenance and operation, electrical, instrumentation, pipe fitting, welding and computer skills are required as well as knowledge of safe work procedures, WHMIS, Survival First Aid and the Transportation of Dangerous Goods.  The incumbent must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License, airbrake endorsement, and have a good mechanical aptitude. This position also includes carrying a pager on a rotational basis and responding to call outs, and it is expected that the successful candidate reside within 20 minutes of the Greater Nanaimo Pollution Control Center.

This is a permanent full time Union position (40 hours per week).  The rate of pay is $33.69 to $35.46 per hour (2016 rate). This position offers an attractive benefits package as provided within the Collective Agreement between the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 401.
