Recreation Manager – Hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk – Tuktoyaktuk, NT

The Hamlet of Tuktoyaktuk is seeking qualified applicants to fill the role of Recreation Manager.

The Recreation Director is responsible for all aspects of community recreation, youth, and various other indoor and outdoor pursuits. All activities for the Hamlet will be organized through the Recreation Manager, under the direction of the Senior Administrative Officer (SAO). All operations will be in accordance with the objectives, policies and plans approved by the Mayor and Council. The successful candidate is responsible for managing, controlling and coordinating the activities of the various recreation programs. Working together with team members comprised of staff and volunteers, the Recreation Manager ensures that the policies and programs of the Hamlet are implemented and advises and informs the SAO of the program operations. The Recreation Manager performs all the proposal submissions and duties in the job description.

The Recreation Director position is accountable for all recreation, youth, sport programming and services to meet the needs of the Council. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate a clear pattern of ongoing recreation development for municipality. A satisfactory criminal check will be required.

Education: Post-secondary education in Recreation, Public Administration, Management, Finance or a related field is required. A related professional designation is considered an asset.

Experience: The ideal candidate will possess a career track record of progressively more senior positions and a combination of the following management experience, preferably in a dynamic government setting.

Successful experience as a  Recreation Director or  Recreation Coordinator
Experience in a multi-dimensional organization – ability to provide focus and leadership and to adapt and integrate planning and program initiatives
A positive record of working effectively with elected community officials, community volunteers, boards, and committees, and public participation processes
Proven experience in strategic planning, organizational development, achieving results in building teams with staff and volunteers.
Experience or significance exposure developing and implementing plans, training and upgrading programs as needed, and training to improve the value of the various programs
