The City of Prince Rupert is currently seeking a positive, energetic, and self-motivated individual to join the leadership team of our Engineering & Public Works Department, as we guide the Municipality through exciting challenges and ensure Prince Rupert’s progress as a great Port City. The successful candidate will be mentored by the Director of Operations and work closely with the Operations Managers. As a key member of the Management team you will have the opportunity to be involved with all aspects of our Public Works operation particularly design and inspection of capital and maintenance projects, tendering & contract administration, land transaction and subdivision approvals, conflict resolution, grant procurement, mapping and utility enquiries, and special projects.

This role will provide the greatest satisfaction to a detail oriented individual who thrives in a multi-faceted environment, understands the complexities of Local Government and enjoys coaching, development and leading staff to reach their full potential.

As this is a visible position and requires considerable contact with the public, the successful candidate will have demonstrated sound judgement and a high degree of customer service ability. The incumbent must have a valid Class 5 BC Drivers Licence and the ability to obtain a RCMP Criminal Record Search including a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Candidate Requirements:

Eligibility for PMP or A.Sc.T. Registration in the Province of British Columbia.
Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Suitable computer literacy, including AutoCAD and Microsoft Office applications.
Significant municipal engineering experience, including civil engineering design, evaluation of consultant’s reports, field inspections, and technical presentations.
Ability to work in a team environment, manage technical personnel, and deal effectively with staff, internal committees, other agencies, and the public.
An understanding of environmental and community planning issues would be an asset.
