Pipelayer – Town of Ladysmith – Ladysmith, BC

We are currently seeking a temporary full-time Pipelayer to work in our Public Works Department.  Under the direction of their immediate supervisor, this position is responsible for the skilled installation and maintenance of sewer and water mains, and related appurtenances.  The position will also be responsible for the skilled operation and use of pipe laying levels, lasers, hand and mechanical compactors, cut-off saws and any other related equipment.  The incumbent is required to supervise the excavation and back filling of utility trenches.

Applicants must be capable of acquiring the EOCP Level 1 Certificate (Water Distribution) within a mutually agreed time.  A minimum of four years’ experience in municipal construction and maintenance is required.  Also required is possession of a valid BC Driver Licence (Class 3).  A Chlorine Handler’s Certificate (Water Supply only) is preferred.  The successful applicant will have hands on experience in the operation of backhoes, loaders and dump trucks, equivalent to those operated by the Town of Ladysmith; thorough knowledge of Water Distribution Systems and Wastewater Collections Systems; thorough knowledge of Town of Ladysmith Manual of Engineering Standards and Specifications; and thorough knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations, WHMIS, and Town of Ladysmith safety procedure.

This is a temporary full time Union position (40 hours per week) with an hourly wage of $29.56/hour, plus 10.4% in lieu of benefits.
