Manager, Community Planning
With a drive and a passion for turning vision into reality, the Manager, Community Planning will have a personality that inspires and the capacity to deliver outstanding results to a Metro Vancouver city that is experiencing tremendous diverse growth. Harnessing Coquitlam’s and helping take advantage of recent major transportation infrastructure investment, the Manager, Community Planning will be responsible for leading and managing the Community Planning Division. Reporting to the General Manager, the incumbent will bring strategic, energetic, teamwork-orientated and innovative leadership to the creation and preparation of community plans and bylaws encompassing a wide range of initiatives including the Evergreen Line/Skytrain expansion, significant greenfield development, major city centre densification and sensitive infill/redevelopment in established neighbourhood centres.
An ambassador of the City when dealing with stakeholders and community groups in various public consultation capacities, this position will lead and mentor a team of twelve staff, bringing an ability to focus on effective results. The Manager, Community Planning will be a seasoned, creative and innovative planning professional with a proven track record in collaboratively developing, providing, seeking approval and implementing a vision for a unique municipality. This senior management position plays an integral role within the City and in the Planning and Development Department, requiring exceptional leadership, judgment and interpersonal skills, as well as the proven ability to develop credibility and effective working relationships with elected officials, staff and the community.
Along with possessing a post-graduate planning degree and membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners, you will bring a minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience within collaborative results-based environments from civic and/or private sectors. The ability to inspire, invigorate, model best practices and build strong well rounded teams will be keys to success. An open-door approach, stressing communication and collaboration will be the cornerstones of achievement in this leadership role.
