The Director of Recreation is a member of the City’s Senior Management Team and works collaboratively with this team to ensure the City’s recreation and facilities approach aligns with and strongly contributes to the City’s strategic direction. The Director leads a team of talented recreation and facilities professionals in the delivery of leisure services, arts and culture programs, community outreach and City-wide facilities services.
Our ideal candidate has:
a positive, energetic, “can-do” approach to work
a proven political astuteness that has yielded influence and support at the governance table
a demonstrated ability to build positive working relationships at all levels of the organization, in the community and with Council
past experience in the design, construction and launch of new recreation complexes
a track record of growing, developing and empowering staff who are excited about coming to work
a drive to continually look at process efficiencies, ways to cut red tape, improve customer experiences and move the organization forward
an under-graduate or graduate level degree in recreation, business or a related field and a demonstrated commitment to learning and personal development
an ability to understand and relate to an audience and deliver powerful and compelling presentations
10 years plus of related management experience in progressively more senior roles
a good sense of humour
