A change in our corporate structure has led to the creation of this position. It will have a significant role as part of our new senior management leadership team. The team’s role is to effectively lead the continuous need for organizational and process change that is part of success in business and administration.
Merritt is located in the Nicola Valley in South Central British Columbia adjacent to major transportation routes. Forestry, agriculture and tourism are major economic drivers. The improvement of Hydro Electrical supply has enhanced opportunities for industrial and manufacturing growth.
The position reports to the Chief Administrative Office (CAO). The Director advises the CAO, Mayor, Council and senior staff on legislative and related matters and provides a link between the Mayor and Council, staff and the public on these matters.
In addition to the normal responsibilities of a Corporate Officer this position:
oversees the provision of Bylaw Enforcement and Human Resources services
acts as the primary media relations contact for the local government
is the Local Government Emergency Public Information Officer, and
is the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A bachelor’s degree in public administration, business or a directly related field
Five years progressively responsible municipal experience with at least two years experience as the Officer responsible for corporate administration
Completion of a Local Government Administration education program, designation as a Certified Municipal Clerk or Registered Parliamentarian is desired.
Proven organizational and management ability in a municipal setting
Demonstrated technological competence
A strong communicator
