Under the direction of the Director of Emergency & Protective Services, the incumbent’s primary function is to plan, organize, direct, implement and control the operations and training programs for all full-time, casual and volunteer personnel of Emergency Services. The goal being to provide our citizens’ with professional and competent emergency services personnel in order to protect life and property through efficient and well-structured fire, ambulance and dispatch services.
In addition, this position is responsible for the compliance and enforcement of codes, by-laws, standards and regulations; including occupational health and safety pertaining to fire, ambulance and dispatch services.
The successful candidate should possess the following:
High school diploma, Class 3 drivers license with Air, First Responder Level III, AED and Spinal, CPR / HCP, NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Operations, NFPA 1001 Fire fighter Level II, NFPA 1002 Fire Apparatus Driver Operator, NFPA 1006 Technical Rescuer (rope rescue & auto extrication), NFPA 1021 Fire Officer II, NFPA 1041 and Fire Service Instructor II.
Minimum level of Specific skills and knowledge required:
5 years experience as a fire service instructor, 5 years as a fire service officer, 3 years pre hospital medical care, 3 years Incident Commander, Also 2 years experience in Human Resources / Management field (Experience working in a combination career/volunteer fire department environment). The successful candidate will also meet or exceed the department’s emergency medical services training and qualifications within 24 months.
The ability to communicate in Inuktitut or French is an asset
Equivalencies that include a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education may be considered.

The annual salary for this position is $107,416.93 plus an annual settlement allowance of $22,378.25 and an excellent benefits package.
