The City of Quesnel’s Development Services Department is seeking a motivated and knowledgeable individual to fill the role of full-time City Planner. Quesnel is a bustling small city with an area population of 23,000 people. Quesnel’s regional airport, rail connectivity, and location directly on British Columbia’s main north-south corridor, make larger markets accessible within a one day drive or one hour flight. With business-friendly government at the local, provincial and federal level, Quesnel is an ideal location to work, live and play.

The ideal candidate for this position will have the capacity to perform a full range of planning duties from entry level through journey level. Incumbents within this class are expected to develop the full range of knowledge, abilities and experience required to perform professional planning work involving the application of professional principles and theory to various municipal planning and zoning  problems. Individuals assigned to this classification are expected to use considerable independent judgment, complete complex and difficult projects, and as experience is acquired, to perform higher level assignments, many of which have high public visibility, with increasing independence.

To be successful, candidates will have successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree with a major study in planning or a related field considered useful in city planning work; sufficient independent planning experience of a professional nature in a public planning environment, and eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners is desirable. A combination equivalent to experience and education may be qualifying as deemed suitable by the City of Quesnel.
