This individual provides supervisory support for the Aquatic Centre under the direction of the Director of Community Services.
Duties shall include:
Providing safeguards and supervision of the activities of all patrons and staff of the Aquatic Centre.
Implementing and directing daily maintenance schedules.
Monitoring and enhancing pool programs.
Provides direction and mentors Aquatic Centre staff while developing a positive working environment at the facility.
The incumbent shall have experience working with and implementing a municipal budget.
Desired Minimum Qualifications:
Three to five years Aquatic Facility Supervisory experience.
Red Cross Instructor Trainer, Advanced Instructor and NLS/AEC Instructor.
RFP Pool Operators I, II.
Experience maintaining an Aquatic facility.

Responsibilities and Activities:
Customer Service
Develops and maintains a positive and proactive customer services philosophy.
Responds to public and media inquires and complaints according to approved procedures.
Communications – emails, mail, phones, reports, invoicing.
Works with community organizations in program development and implementation.
Responds promptly and positively to customer/community requests and concerns.
Markets, advertises, and promotes facility services, programs and events.
Schedules facility bookings and staff to achieve the optimum balance between cost effectiveness and customer expectations.
Administration
Develops, implements and evaluates a broad range of programs, services, policies and activities that are responsive to community needs and priorities. Recommending new (or revised) policies and programs to the Director of Community Services.
Collects and analyzes data required for the effective and efficient management of the aquatics facility.
Provide recommendations and reports to the Director of Community Services on aquatics related matters.
Attends meetings as required or as directed by the Director of Community Services in respect to aquatics/recreation issues concerning the Town and provides appropriate written or verbal reports to the Director of Community Services.
Assesses and evaluates programs, projects, special events and services.
Implements program and service delivery evaluation procedures, seeks out grant opportunities, reviews existing trade contracts, utilizes volunteers, and applies current technology in order to keep activities current, effective, efficient and customer service orientated.
Responsible for the purchasing, maintenance and inventory of control of supplies and equipment.
Conducts research and program evaluations, implements fund-raising projects, pursues grant opportunities, prepares budgets and develops long range plans for section, facility and programs.
Supervision
Plans, schedules and directs the work of full time senior lifeguards/instructors and part time senior and/or junior lifeguard instructors.
Interviews, hires, supervises and trains and develops staff and volunteers who operate or facilitate various courses and programs.
Provides for staff development through regular feedback on performance, coaching and training opportunities including regular in-service sessions and training clinics.
In consultation with the Director of Community Services, Supervises, hires, promotes, disciplines, demotes, suspends, releases (as necessary), transfers and directs all subordinate staff within appropriate management practices, approved personnel policies and legislation.
Recommends to the Director of Community Services, new positions, salary adjustments, fringe benefits and working conditions within the Section.
Completes performance reviews and testing on all staff reporting directly to the Aquatics Supervisor within appropriate management practices and legislation.
In cooperation with the Director of Community Services, encourages teamwork, shares and rewards outstanding contributions for individual and group efforts. Provides input into staff development and training programs.
May instruct programs and backup lifeguards as necessitated through staffing schedules or unexpected absences.
Operations
Directs the efficient operation and maintenance of main pool and whirlpool mechanical and chemical systems, by performing or overseeing the testing of the water quality in the pool and ensuring that it meets or exceeds acceptable standards and health regulations.
Maintains required statistics, records, and reports and submits them on an assigned or required basis.
Plans and supervises the preventative maintenance schedule, ensuring that necessary repairs are noted and completed. Coordinates the annual shutdown, consulting and assisting with the departments outside the section (maintenance, custodial, clerical and cash) and outside services and contractors.
Contacts
Within the organization, the incumbent has regular and ongoing contact with the Town, Council, CAO, and department heads in matters concerning aquatics and aquatics programming advice and guidance.
Outside the organization, this position has regular contact with a variety of aquatics agencies, organizations, and facilities, user groups, and the community.
Budget
Assists the Director of Community Services in the preparation of the corporate annual and long-range (manpower, equipment, services) plans, operational and capital budgets.
Monitors all activity budgets on a regular basis.
Safety
Oversees the pool administration and maintenance and enforces safety regulations in order to ensure a safe environment for all patrons.
Develops, implements, and maintains guidelines and procedures to support an effective and safe aquatics operation. Ensuring all insurance and regulatory requirements are met.
Oversees and directs that all tasks and projects performed by employees, contractors, and facilitators, within functional area, are carried out within Occupational Health and Safety Standards, adequate Workers Compensation coverage, and other due diligence issues.
Responsible for providing a high standard of emergency care and first aid services. Ensures that staff training and development is continuously updated to meet required standards.
Oversees the safety and well being of people (including the very young, elderly, and other vulnerable groups) in a wide range of circumstances, large groups, during high- risk aquatics/recreational activities and when they are dependent on the services that the Town provides.
Health and Safety:
Must adhere to all safety standards under the Occupational Health and Safety Legislation, Town Policies and Procedures and WHMIS Guidelines. For specific responsibilities of this position, refer to the Town’s Health and Safety Policy, Section 2 – Responsibilities for CAO, Directors, Supervisors and Workers.

Possess a valid 5 Drivers License.
Minimum Grade 12 education, combined with Recreation Facility Management or equivalent Course work from a technical institute in a related area. Combined with technical certifications and requirements. (National Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, Standard First Aid, Pool Operator II, AFLCA, Advanced/Specialty Instructor).
Authorities of this Position:
$1,000.00 per occurrence spending authority.
Required Qualifications of this Position:
