Waterworks Technician II – Sunshine Coast Regional District

The Sunshine Coast Regional District is currently inviting applications for the position of Waterworks Technician II (Full-time). The Waterworks Technician II position ensures the efficient and continuous supply and treatment of potable water to the Sunshine Coast Regional District, and the efficient and effective treatment of the Sunshine Coast Regional District’s sanitary sewer systems. Work is performed to ensure that service delivery meets the expectations of internal and external customers, in accordance with the appropriate regulatory and licence requirements.

Candidates must have:
FORMAL EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of grade 12 or equivalent.
Certified in the Environmental Operators Certification Program (EOCP) with a minimum of:
Water Distribution Level II
Water Treatment Level I
Wastewater Treatment Level I
and certification as a Chlorine Handler.
Diploma in Water or Waste Water Treatment preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years’ experience operating and maintaining water treatment and distribution systems.
Experience in millwrighting and electrical work related to municipal operations is desirable.

OTHER SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
Valid BC Class 5 driver’s licence.
Knowledge of applicable Workers’ Compensation Board requirements, especially confined space entry requirements and use of SCBA.
Ability to operate and maintain water treatment systems; pumping, flow and process control equipment and chlorination systems applicable to municipal operations.
Knowledge of the principles of water chemistry, biology and physics as they relate to water distribution.
WCB Level 1 First Aid.
Transportation of Dangerous Goods Ticket.
Ability to organize workload, set priorities, and work with a minimum of supervision.
Ability to accurately record measurements, enter into database, analyse results and provide recommendations.
Ability to operate a computer using standard software, i.e. e-mail, databases, spread sheets and word processing.
Ability to communicate effectively with SCRD staff and contractors.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

This is a bargaining unit position with a wage rate of $32.30 per hour and includes a full benefit package upon the successful completion of a four month probationary period with the SCRD.
