Water Treatment Plant Operator
(Competition 15-98)

The City of Nanaimo is seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator. This position performs highly skilled operational and maintenance work in a complex 116 ML/d ultrafiltration membrane plant. Work involves making operational decisions and performing operational and maintenance duties in order to maintain water quality that meets or exceeds all compliance criteria outlined in the City’s Operating Permit and Provincial and/or Canadian Drinking Water Legislation. This position is responsible and accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the City’s water treatment system ensuring the production and delivery of safe, potable drinking water.

Applicants must have completed Grade 12 and have a diploma from a recognized technical institute in Water Quality Technology.  Possession of a Level III EOCP Water Treatment Certificate or eligibility in British Columbia for the same, plus one (1) year of experience in a senior position is required.

Applicants will have a valid Chlorine Handler’s Certificate and Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.

This is a unionized position based on a 40 hour work week $32.91 – $34.64 per hour – after Probation (Jan 2015 rate – subject to Job Evaluation). A comprehensive benefit package is included.  Hours of work will be morning and afternoon shifts, averaging 40 hrs per week.
