Water Treatment Plant Operator – City of Nanaimo – Nanaimo, BC

Water Treatment Plant Operator (4 Positions)

The City of Nanaimo is seeking four (4) Water Treatment Plant Operators. These positions perform highly skilled operational and maintenance work in a complex 116 ML/d ultrafiltration membrane plant. Work involves making operational decisions and performing operational and maintenance duties in order to maintain water quality that meets or exceeds all compliance criteria outlined in the City’s Operating Permit and Provincial and/or Canadian Drinking Water Legislation. These positions are responsible and accountable for the safe and efficient operation of the City’s water treatment system ensuring the production and delivery of safe, potable drinking water.

Applicants must have completed Grade 12 and have a diploma from a recognized technical institute in Water Quality Technology.  Possession of a Level III EOCP Water Treatment Certificate or eligibility in British Columbia for the same, plus one (1) year of experience in a senior position is required.

Applicants will have a valid Chlorine Handler’s Certificate and Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.

These are unionized positions based on a 40 hour work week $32.91 – $34.64 per hour – after Probation (Jan 2015 rate – subject to Job Evaluation). A comprehensive benefit package is included.

The Water Treatment Plant is currently under construction; commissioning is expected November 2015. Operators will spend several months in advance of commissioning learning the plant and training on systems.

Hours of work pre-commissioning will be based on a Monday to Friday schedule, 40 hours per week day shift.  Post –commissioning hours of work will be morning and afternoon shifts scheduled between the hours of 5:00am and 10:00pm., 40 hours per week Sunday through Saturday.
