Waste Reduction and Recycling Technical Assistant
Environmental Services – up to 8 months
Working on a team and under minimal supervision, this position will be responsible for delivering outreach education on the City of Coquitlam’s recycling and waste reduction programs, including developing and implementing Elementary and Middle School recycling presentations. This position will also assist in organizing a ‘Green Village’ for the City’s Canada Day event as well as attending other events to promote recycling programs. Other duties include responding to resident inquiries and providing program information related to City initiatives, obtaining feedback from residents regarding waste reduction programs, assisting in the design and preparation of educational/informational material as directed, preparing and maintaining database records. Performs related work as required.
It is required you possess the following:
Completion of twelfth grade supplemented by technical courses related to the work
Excellent public education and public relations skills
Experience in customer service
Excellent written/verbal communication
Experience in data recording/computer data entry
Demonstrated organizational ability and creativity
Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
Proficient computer ability using MS Excel, MS Access and Word
Ability and willingness to work effectively outdoors
Candidates must have an acceptable, valid BC driver’s license
Additional assets include:
Having access to your own vehicle for work purposes
Experience in research and writing reports
Knowledge of languages such as: Cantonese and/or Mandarin
Completed post-secondary education in Environmental Studies or related program.
Experience and/or knowledge of environmental work or issues
This position typically works Monday to Friday and is a 35 hour work week. The position will be required to work some evenings and weekends. A CUPE hourly rate of $21.87 – $25.61 is offered, plus 6% in lieu of benefits, and a compressed work week.
