The Regional District of Nanaimo has an employment opportunity for a Utilities Technician II in the Water Services Department.

Reporting to the Chief Operator, the successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of duties including the installation and reading of water meters and related appurtenances; operating the backhoe and dump truck; installing and maintaining water and sewer mains and related equipment; performing water reservoir maintenance; routine checks on all utilities, maintaining digital records and producing reports. Other duties include performing fire hydrant and grounds maintenance, responding to public questions or complaints, and other related duties as required.  This position also includes carrying a pager on a rotational basis and responding to call outs.  It is required that the successful candidate reside within 20 minutes of the Parksville Utility Office location.

Applicants must possess a Post-Secondary Diploma in Water and Wastewater Treatment, plus 3 years current job related experience and completion of the Wastewater Collection Level I and Water Distribution Level II exams, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.  Current Certification with the Environmental Operators Certification Program of BC in Wastewater Collection Level I and Water Distribution Level II is also required.  A working knowledge of WHMIS regulations and procedures, safe work procedures, an ability to read construction drawings, good mechanical aptitude, as well as knowledge and experience in computer applications are required.  The incumbent must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and have strong interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with the public.

This is a permanent full time Union position. The rate of pay for this position is $29.27 – $30.81 per hour.
