The City of Penticton is seeking an innovative and collaborative individual to fill the position of Sports and Events Project Manager. This position will champion, support and assist sporting events, festivals and group/meeting organizers to attract and execute successful events in and around Penticton. The City has a strong history of supporting sports and events tourism (IronMan, Gran Fondo and the Okanagan Hockey School to name a few examples) and has made a strategic commitment to continue to develop opportunities for sports and events tourism in this area.
The successful candidate will:
develop hosting packages/resources and assist with logistics for local organizations;
work with existing event/festival partners to help increase visitors and self-sustainability; and
produce new events that attract out-of-town visitors.
Qualifications include: post-secondary education in business, marketing/communications, event planning and/or sports marketing, supplemented with a minimum of two years’ experience. Knowledge of all facets of sport and event tourism and experience working with event organizers, planners and associations is preferred.
In this position candidates must demonstrate and maintain a high degree of confidentiality, possess exceptional interpersonal skills, and will be self-motivated with the ability to work independently. Superior computer skills using CRM systems and database management software is required.
