Job Description :
This is a Permanent Full-time position [36.25 hours/week, Monday to Friday]

Due to a pending retirement, Clearwater County is seeking an experienced professional with progressive exposure in complex planning assignments, and who is able to work with a greater scope of independence, exercising sound analysis, judgment and thinking skills.

Primary responsibilities will include:

Undertaking complex planning studies, current applications and reviewing consultant proposals;
Assisting the Manager in annual budget preparation;
Conducting research and preparing statistical reports on land use, physical, social, economic and environmental issues;
Conducting field inspections as required;
Meeting with ratepayers, committees, elected officials, and staff;
Providing supervision, leadership and assistance to the Planning Department staff.

Skills and Abilities Required:

Advanced knowledge of the philosophies, principles, practices and techniques of planning;
Well-developed knowledge in land use, subdivision and development;
Proficiency in current and long term planning;
Knowledge and application of the Municipal Government Act and related legislation;
Advanced research, data collection, and report[s] preparation;
Effective writing, public presentation and communication skills;
Proficient use and competency in various computer hardware and software and related programs for use in planning and/or development;
Excellent level of interpersonal and relationship building skills;
Effective and efficient project, organization and time management skills;
Proven leadership skills and ability.

Qualifications Required:

Post-secondary degree in Planning, Geography or related discipline and 5 years progressive planning experience [Assets: Master’s degree; rural planning experience];
APPI/CIP regulated members required/preferred;
Class 5 Drivers’ License [a Driver’s Abstract will be required from the successful candidate].
