The company is based in Montreal, Quebec and Sarasota, Florida with 13 facilities in North America and two European locations.  The Truro, Nova Scotia plant produces woven plastic fabric for a wide range of products serving North America and export markets. IPG is seeking an experienced Safety Professional to join the Truro, Nova Scotia Team.

Safety Engineer

The Safety Engineer will ensure the maintenance and continuous improvement of IPG’s Health, Safety and Environmental safety first culture. The Safety Engineer will recommend strategic direction and implement plans based on safety audit results, and will ensure that our policies and programs meet legislated requirements. Responsibilities will include training employees in safety management best practices, assisting with hazard identification and the development of safe work procedures, identifying, developing and delivering safety training supplements, providing day-to-day guidance and advice. The Safety Manager will also be responsible for providing field support for the safety requirements of significant projects.

Job Duties:

Implement health, safety and environmental practices, policies and plans that engage 100% of the associates.
Provide necessary training, leadership, organization and control to meet the company’s goal of zero accidents.
Lead the implementation of the company Intertape Performance System Safety Pillar Team
Accept full authority to take any necessary action to maintain overall safe practices and procedures
Implement information flow and data publications to ensure each level of management is properly informed of all activities relative to compliance with company safety policies and bulletins.
Manage the site safety reporting systems and analyze data to identify and correct loss related trends.
Ensure all equipment and buildings owned or operated by the company comply with safety and fire regulations and any other Provincial or Federal regulations.
Observe equipment and property conditions and report discrepancies to appropriate managers and safety teams.
Conduct safety orientation of new employees
Monitor and measure effectiveness of all safety programs and documentation required
Develop teams from within the company to ensure health, safety and environmental compliance is observed at all levels.
Develop manuals, policies, and procedures for training and safe work practices to be approved by the Operations Manager and then implemented.
Conduct accident investigations as necessary to assist with determination and causation, including resolution of open action items.
Observe all company rules, policies and procedures
Utilize Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Program (RMP) tools to support compliance, develop procedures and prepare training programs;
Facilitating PHAs for plant processes, including collection of needed process information, preparation of the PHA worksheets or PHA software, facilitating the PHA at the plant site, and preparing the PHA report.
Conducting other process safety related field assignments, such as performing PSM/RMP compliance audits, conducting training, chemical inventory assessments, and similar assignments;

Requirements

Engineering Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
CRSP designation an asset
3 to 5 years’ experience as a Safety Professional
Experience in research, analysis, interpretation and implementation of safety regulations, standards, and best practices. i.e. Machine Guarding
Understand and have complete knowledge of all Federal, Provincial rules and regulations pertaining to safety codes and Occupational Health and Safety rules
Direct experience assessing training needs, creating training materials to fulfill those needs, and then delivering the training
Excellent at creating high quality presentations using a variety of technologies (e.g. WebEx, Microsoft PowerPoint, LCD projectors, etc.)
Advanced written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate with individuals
Demonstrated ability to train, coach, evaluate, and improve others
Motivated, energetic, goal-oriented, and positive outlook critical
Strong time management and prioritization skills
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Strong sense of professionalism and diplomacy
Strong attention to detail
Experience with DNV Loss Control Programs, DuPont STOP Program and Lean an asset
Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, associates, key business partners, and other stakeholders
Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
