The Regional District of Central Kootenay is seeking a highly motivated and strategic Operations Supervisor to oversee their Resource Recovery services, facilities and programs. Reporting to the Resource Recovery Manager, this is a supervisory and operational role that ensures all RDCK landfills and transfer stations operate in a safe, efficient manner year round. This role works with limited supervision spending equal time between the office and on site, requiring a high degree of contact with direct subordinates, contractors and the general public. Primary duties of this role include:

Oversee the day-to-day operation and maintenance of Resource Recovery Services
Schedule and supervise Resource Recovery staff at 17 stations across the Regional District in line with two separate labour agreements (union and non-union)
Ensure compliance with RDCK environmental policy, bylaw and applicable federal and provincial environmental regulations.
Coordinate service and supply contracts and ensure completion of scheduled works
Develop, implement and maintain SWPs for all Resource Recovery Services
Respond to safety issues and implement corrective measures.
The Resource Recovery Operations Supervisor works Tuesday – Saturday. This role acts as the first point of contact in situations requiring immediate attention at Resource Recovery sites, including issues that arise outside of business hours. Participation in the RDCK on-call program is required

This is a crucial role in the delivery of Resource Recovery Services to the residents of the Regional District. To be considered for the opportunity, you will possess:

Post-secondary education in environmental management, solid waste management or similar
3+ years experience in the administration and operation of municipal solid waste services OR similar
Previous supervisory experience with demonstrated skill in delivering coaching, supervision and discipline to operations staff.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of Federal, Provincial and Local government acts, regulations and guidelines as they relate to solid waste management.
Working knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulation and ability to develop safety measures for operations staff
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
