Your role:
The Reliability Manager position core duties are; ensure optimal production performance of the Cornwallis facility, by managing a maintenance organization and maintenance costs to maximize the availability of the production facilities. This will be achieved by improving equipment reliability, with a focus on predictive and preventative maintenance, while minimizing maintenance costs. S/he will carry out the job in compliance with corporate requirements, Cornwallis annual budget, engineering standards, and relevant laws and regulations. S/he will be responsible for staff maintenance employees, as well as onsite contractors, to ensure our maintenance employees and contractors support the needs of the site. The focus of the job is the elimination of production downtime. The position will also be involved in other areas of plant operations including: safety, environment, quality, research & development and finance.
Provide leadership to ensure the daily success and improvement of the maintenance work processes; to ensure no equipment downtime or interruptions to production.
Lead the establishment of goals, objectives, and maintenance key performance indicators, and to drive continuous improvement activities to achieve established goals including a preventative and predictive maintenance program.
Plan daily, weekly, and monthly execution of maintenance activities including; electrical, automation/instrumentation, mechanical (welding, mill writing, pipe fitting, hydraulic, pneumatic, etc.) work.
Prepare and execute annual 2 week maintenance shutdown plan.
Implement “best manufacturing maintenance practices” to identify and evaluate opportunities to improve maintenance processes and productivity improvements.
Ensure that maintenance team members receive appropriate education and training to meet the requirements of their job.
Manage maintenance activities in a safe and environmentally acceptable manner.
Implement/monitor contractor safety including adherence to safe work methods
Execute critical equipment inspection routines – and monitor compliance, including “over-due” routines.
Develop and implement maintenance department KPIs.
Display and promote positive safety behaviors at all times; use proper personal protective equipment, appropriate safety tools, equipment and procedures to ensure that self and others go home safely each day.
Ensure that maintenance personnel and contractors maintain good housekeeping standards and keep their work areas and job sites neat and clean.
Develop and implement maintenance (Reliability) policies and procedures.
Daily, weekly, monthly monitoring of maintenance expenses relative to budget
Ensure availability of spare parts and other resources
Daily prioritization of maintenance work in collaboration with the operations and engineering groups.
Ensure all maintenance work is carried out to safety and “quality of work standards”, at all times.
Develop and implement preventative maintenance plans and programs.
Troubleshoot equipment problems.
Work with HR to coordinate the hiring and training of all maintenance personnel.
Monitor maintenance expenses and research ways to reduce costs while maintaining excellent maintenance standards
Work with the Manager, Safety and Environment to ensure all members of the maintenance team work within the safety policies, and safe work procedures; to provide a safe workplace for our maintenance employees and contractors.
Maintain and support a superior safety and housekeeping program
Help develop and execute the annual plant manufacturing budget.
Conduct performance appraisals and provide coaching and guidance to all maintenance personnel
Encourage and promote operating in a continuous improvement environment.
Remove maintenance constraints; allocate human and equipment resources and direct maintenance employees, to attain all established goals.
Remove waste and constraints from the maintenance processes to improve efficiencies and enhance productivity.
Work with purchasing department to develop and improve maintenance supplier relationships.
Work with maintenance personnel on elimination of down time of equipment and machinery.
Provide technical support where necessary.
Facilitate coordination and communication between various areas
Respond to after hours, and weekend calls, from the production plants
Develop maintenance systems for the other ASL plants
Support the company’s vision and policies regarding Health & Safety, Corporate Culture, Environmental Management and the Progressive Excellence Program by displaying the appropriate behaviors and leadership towards meeting the company’s objectives in these areas.
Qualifications/Abilities:
Ten years’ hands-on management in a manufacturing environment managing teams of maintenance people
Possession of an Engineering degree from an accredited college or university
Majority of work experience in maintenance (focus on mechanical work preferred)
Technical knowledge to perform responsibilities with minimal supervision required
Good math, oral/written communication, interpersonal, coaching skills, trouble shooting, participative leadership, time management, and problem solving skills
Knowledge and understanding of personal/process control computers (Allen-Bradley experience would be an asset)
Demonstrated experience ensuring compliance to safe work systems like (hot work) permit, confined space entry, lock out, tag out, job safety analysis (JSA), etc.
Knowledge and experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
Demonstrated experience in the achievement of operational efficiency improvement and improvement of maintenance work processes
Competency in MS office and business software applications
