The Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is seeking a skilled Project Engineer to join our Utilities Operations Leadership Team. Reporting to the Manager, Water Management, the Project Engineer is responsible for assisting with the implementation and management of capital and other projects and also provides professional engineering advice on technical issues related to water, wastewater (treatment and distribution/ collection) and stormwater management systems.
The successful candidate will be registered as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia holding a degree in civil engineering or a related specialty from a recognized university. The ideal candidate will possess a Project Management Professional Certificate and have demonstrated experience effectively delivering and managing complex projects. Candidates must have 5 or more years of progressive experience as an engineer in water, wastewater and stormwater management systems. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.
You are a results-oriented professional with a proven track record of managing multiple projects of varying degrees of complexity in a timely manner. Upcoming CVRD projects include water treatment plants, water distribution upgrades/replacements, a Class A wastewater treatment plant, and ground water source development and metering.
You are skilled in effectively managing project budgets; monitoring and controlling costs to ensure the effective and efficient expenditure of allocated funds. You have experience participating in analysis of complex municipal servicing issues.
You are knowledgeable of engineering principles and applicable laws, regulations, agreements and procedures as related to civil engineering in a local government setting.
Your strong communication skills and innate ability to influence, inspire and lead contractors, consultants, and engineering technical staff will serve you well in this position. Your interpersonal skills and political acumen positions you to consistently deliver first class service to our community and elected officials.
Advanced computer skills are essential and experience with Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project and AutoCAD are desirable. Experience in planning, designing, modeling, and analyzing networks would be considered an asset.
