Job Description
This position will coordinate research and development activities in the area of extrusion coated woven polyolefins. Specifically, they will be responsible for operating the R&D cast film extrusion line. This will entail running projects across multiple product lines and divisions within the company. This position is based in our Truro Plant and will report to the Research & Development manager and requires travel.
Position Expectations:
Will be trained to be a company-wide expert in extrusion.
This position will lead to a position in manufacturing either as a process engineer or department supervisor.
Works with the sales force, manufacturing and customers to determine the needs of the marketplace and to develop high value new products.
Works closely with suppliers to ensure any relevant innovations in resin, etc., are exploited in the design of our fabrics.
Supports all aspects of the product development cycle from idea through commercialization, including trials in the plant, field trials with customers, market development and technical support for the product launch.
Ensures that all legal and governmental codes and requirements are identified and met for those projects going forward.
Plans and formulates aspects of research and development proposals such as objectives or purpose of project, applications that can be utilized from findings, costs of project, equipment and human resource requirements.
Reviews and analyzes proposals submitted to determine if benefits derived and possible applications justify expenditures.
Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring projects such as preparation of records of expenditures and research findings, progress reports, and staff conferences, in order to inform management of current status of each project.
Initiates and follows through on patents for products, processes, or equipment as appropriate.
Qualifications:
A mechanical engineer with one to three years’ experience, preferably in the areas of high performance films or plastics extrusion
Strong interpersonal communications skills and computer literacy
